Pilgrim Retreat: Mark Your Calendar!
The annual retreat will be held Saturday, February 17 in the PCC sanctuary from 9 AM to 3 PM.
A light breakfast will be available at 8:30 and lunch will be served at noon.
The retreat has been renamed Pilgrim Retreat because it is not limited to Consistory.
All members who are interested in participating in the direction and future of PCC are encouraged to come and participate.
We look forward to your participation!
Lenten Book Study
Rev. Loar has invited folks to join him in a reading and discussion for Lent of the book "Forgiveness, the Passionate Journey: Nine Steps to Forgiving Through Jesus' Beatitudes." It is written by Flora Slosson Wuellner who is a United Church of Christ minister, but has written and spoken to scores of peoples around the themes of prayer, healing and spiritual life. The book costs $8.00. It is not a long book and most chapters provide questions for reflection. We will meet for discussion for 1/2 hour each Sunday after we get refreshments from the Fellowship Hour. If you simply want to order the book and read through on your own, that is fine. Let David Loar know if you would like a copy of the book.
Pastoral Search Committee Update
The organizational meeting of the pastoral search committee
was held Monday, January 29.
Members of this committee were confirmed as Barb Inderlied, Chris Schmid,
Lynn Felberg, Mariah Moore, Paul Hederstrom, Roz Kvet, Steve Wick,
Ward Lawrence, and Ginger Hannon.
Immediately following the PCC Retreat, the committee will meet biweekly for the first couple months
in order to create a schedule of the steps that need to be taken
and begin the work to accomplish them. The frequency may change thereafter.
We will be working closely with representatives from both the DOC
and UCC during the process of the search and seeking input and
comments from the entire PCC congregation.
Updates will be provided to the congregation in the weekly e-letter
and monthly Visitor concerning the committee’s progress.
This Sunday is Scout Sunday. February 14th this year is both Ash Wednesday and Valentines Day. There will be an Ash Wednesday service in the sanctuary led by the Elders at 7:00 pm. I will be gone February 12th-16th for training in Asheville, NC related to my interim ministry. It is focused around Appreciative Inquiry. AI is a way for an organization to plan for the future and to seek change through focusing on its positive assets rather than trying to fix what people say are the problems. Here is a web site that explains more https://appreciativeinquiry.champlain.edu/learn/appreciative-inquiry-introduction/
In my ministry of 42 years, from time to time, I will hear indirectly through other folks that someone is not happy with what I said or did. This happens for all of us and is part of what I described a few weeks ago as triangulation. I strongly encourage anyone who feels like I have said something that has upset them or they strongly disagree with to see about the two of us sitting down to chat about it. That is in the vein of Jesus saying "where two or three of us are gathered together, I am present with you." That passage begins by talking about forgiveness and that folks can only forgive and move on when they meet face to face and are open to the Holy Spirit to work among them. But forgiveness may not be necessary. It may only need to be clarification and further conversation to sort out what was said, what was heard and what was understood.
Grace and peace,
David Loar, Interim Pastor
