Connections: Peace Be With You
Today is the last day I serve you as the minister of Pilgrim Christian Church. The day has come with tears, with grateful laughter, and with profound faith and hope.
I am and will continue to grieve the conclusion of ministry with you - this is what we do when something so good comes to an end. I have been laughing this day as every book, letter, and piece of art that I have been boxing up for moving seems to be paired with a joyful memory of this church-life. And amidst all of these emotions, there is a deep faith and a bright hope.
I have faith in the leadership of the congregation, that they will continue to lead the church into this interim process. I have faith in the leadership of the denominations, that they will offer guidance and resources and prayer for this body. I have faith in the God who has brought us together - that as God has called me elsewhere, God is calling a gifted and compassionate minister to serve you for this next season.
Pilgrim Christian Church, you are a beautiful congregation - a community filled with loving, compassionate, and gracious disciples of Jesus Christ. If over the last six years, we have moved through a process of coming home to yourself, then the beautiful task before you is to live into it. There is a blessing for you. There is a covenant with you. You, Pilgrim Christian Church, are free to live into this with all of the faith, hope, and Love within you, with the prayers of the entire Church around you, and with the calling of God ever upon you.
May you be the people you have been created and are called to be.
May you be the Church that you are created and called to be.
And as always, may God’s Grace and Peace be with you.
Rev. Chris McCreight
Chi Rho will meet on Sunday, October 22nd, after coffee hour for a round of mini golf at Chip's Club House and then lunch. We hope everyone will be able to join us.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be looking for nursery volunteers to assist during church. I'm also looking for teachers for the 1st to 3rd grade class as well as the Chi Rho (4th grade and up) class. We also need substitutes and assistants for all the classes. No one will be asked to teach/help every Sunday; you decide how much time you have to give. It's a great way to get to know the children in our church.
The leadership of the congregation (Moderator: Paul Hederstrom, Vice-Moderator: Ginger Hannon, Elder Chair: Mary Wick, and Upcoming Vice-Moderator: Chris Schmid) have now received the first wave of profiles (resumes of interim minister candidates) from the Disciples and UCC. Together, they will soon filter through the profiles and make arrangements to contact any candidate(s) that may look like a good fit for the interim ministry with Pilgrim.
In the meantime, we welcome Rev. Paul Barbins to preach in worship this Sunday, October 1 and the next, Oct 8th. This will be a time to hear and receive a word from clergy within and outside of our denominations who come with diverse experiences and journeys. There is always some gift to receive.
Dear Pilgrim Christian Church,
With a grateful heart, I write to thank you for the welcome and love you have extended to Chris, Linden, and me over the past six years. I was quite emotional on Sunday, and could not say much of what I wished to say to each of you individually, and so I offer this communal note of thanks...
When Chris and I arrived at Pilgrim, I could not have imagined the kindness you all would show each day. From inviting me to sit with you in church and in fellowship hall, to having us over for dinner, to extending invitations to your homes both near and out of state, you welcomed us. And when you found out that we were expecting Linden, you showered us with such love and generosity, that I find myself tearing up just thinking about it. We became more than congregants in the same church - we became family.
When Linden arrived, you enfolded her in the church community, and gave her a church home that was supportive and loving. As she learned to walk and talk within Pilgrim's walls, you made space for her to laugh and share (and sometimes bury her head in shyness), as you do all children. Her vision of church, and of sacred community, will be forever shaped by your early interactions with her. For this, I find I am most thankful.
I have never belonged to a church as long as I have belonged to Pilgrim, and I know I will miss you all in ways I have yet to imagine. But I also know I was incredibly fortunate to have been blessed by your love during this time, and I look forward to seeing you down the road.
