Connections: The Last Sunday
Last week at the Chautauqua Institution was absolutely amazing. I had the opportunity to meet the other 8 clergy from the Northeast (Virginia to New Hampshire/Maine to Ohio!), to begin learning from clergy coaches at the Center for Progressive Renewal, and even had a chance to sit down with Dr. Robert Franklin (the outgoing President of the Institution). This four-day retreat was revealing and constructive of my personal gifts and limitations of leadership, and I am eager to continue the program to develop my gifts and skills. I share this to offer a word of thanks to you, Pilgrim Christian Church, for your support of my participation in this program, seeing this as mutually beneficial.
It is the same support that I give thanks for as it pertains to sabbatical. I cannot believe that this Sunday has arrived. It will be my final Sunday in worship before beginning sabbatical Friday, May 12th. How good it will be to worship with you, to pray with you, and to engage with you before I am sent off. The closer we get to this time, the more confident I become of the mutual blessing and benefit this time will offer us. A time to reflect; a time to lead; a time to grow together; a time to heal; a time to listen. I give thanks for your support of such a gift as sabbatical, and I look forward to the blessing it will bring to Pilgrim Christian Church.
I hope to see you this Sunday, or before May 12th!
Grace and Peace,
In Sunday School this week, the children will hear the story of Paul's

to Mother's Day and the Memorial Day weekend. During the summer, we
will meet once a month. We will try to work around everyone's

Sabbatical Preparation Update:
Welcome Rev. Houston Bowers and his beloved wife, Mary, to Pilgrim Christian Church next Sunday, May 14th. Houston is a retired Disciples minister who has extraordinary gifts and wisdom to share with the Church - along with incredible stories. The gift of sabbatical includes this blessed opportunity to welcome and engage with the Bowers family and receive from their faithfulness.
Pilgrim Christian Church is a dual-denomination congregation in relationship with the United Church of Christ (UCC.org) and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (disciples.org). Both denominations operate in faithful relationship of covenant. We belong to the whole denomination and work more closely with the Western Reserve/Eastern Ohio Association in the UCC and with the Region of Ohio in the Disciples. Recently, there has been transition within the Ohio Regional Leadership. The Rev. Dr. Bill Edwards (who was present to install Pastor Laurie Metzko and Rev. Chris) has retired. Currently, Rev. Stephen Bentley is the acting Regional Minister while the Regional Council begins the search process for a new Regional Minister. If you would like to learn more about what it happening within the Region at this time, please click here to read a letter from the Moderator, http://www.ccinoh.com/media/162622/web_buckeye_may_2017.pdf. Let us be in prayer for the Regional Ministry in this time.
Many many thanks to all who worked one or more shifts last weekend to make the Maple Festival pancake and sausage project a success. Even with a slower Saturday it turned out to be a typical year netting between five and six thousand dollars...all of which is spent within the walls of our church. We remain in awe of the customers who return year after year, which speaks to our excellent product and the friendly people serving it. We could not have done this without your support.
Jan Stewart’s Funeral
Saturday, May 6th, we will gather at Pilgrim Christian Church for the funeral of our beloved friend and Sister in Christ, Jan Stewart. There will be a time of remembrance and sharing at 10:00am in the sanctuary. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am and be followed by a luncheon downstairs in the fellowship hall. Come remember, come celebrate, come mourn with those who have been blessed by the presence and good life of Jan Stewart.
Bunco for the Food Pantry!
On Monday, May 8th at 6 PM at Barbara Inderlied's home.
Bring feminine hygiene products, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, toothbrushes, etc.
Barb will have corn chowder. We could use thick crusted brad fruit and desserts.
Bibles and Brown Bags:
The Wednesday afternoon bible study will be suspended for the summer. The final meeting will take place on May 10th. It will be back (with vengeance!) at a later time. However, it is time for the study to take a sabbatical as well. Please allow the absence to encourage ideas and dreams of what other ways study and learning may take shape on a weekly basis.
Membership Committee meeting May 15 at 6:30 pm in the parlor.
Office volunteers are needed for June 6 & 7 and 12-14 to answer phones.
The office is also in need of someone to complete administrative tasks during that time. They do not need to be completed during office hours. Please contact Cheryl in the office if you are available to help.
