A holy “thank you” for another week of rest and vacation.
Returning in the midst of party conventions certainly brings a sense of timing! This coming Sunday, we are confronted with lectionary texts that appear to dwell in the language and concepts of stewardship (Ecclesiastes 1.2, 12-14; 2.18-23 & Luke 12.13-21), yet what we come to understand ever so well is that generosity towards others leads to a generosity of spirit. Stewardship is not only about money, but it is about spirit, presence, and being. How eager we are to share our money with others may be a direct reflection of how willing we are to share empathy, compassion, or grace to others.
Looking throughout our world now, the beautiful and bright spots are filled with a generosity. The painful and dark spots are barren of any generosity whatsoever. This Sunday, we’ll encounter scripture that may lead us to a more generous being that just may lead to a more beautiful, gracious, and peaceful home, community, and world. All of this from a text about stewardship. Pretty cool.
Join us for "Outback Rock" Vacation Bible School on Saturday, August
6th, from 9:30 to noon! We'll be making "boo-boo" bunnies to donate
to the food cupboard (and one to take home!), hearing the story of
Jesus' resurrection, and playing games. Please call the church office
by Monday, August 1st, to register. Children ages 3 through 4th grade
Our youth group meeting on July 17th was cancelled due to my illness.
I apologize to those students who showed up. We'll reschedule for
September - date to be announced.
NEEDS - We are looking for a play house for the nursery (we'd prefer
one that hasn't been left outside), a play cash register, paint
shirts, and bean bag chairs. If you would like to donate any of these
items, please contact me or the office.
I will NOT be in church this Sunday, July 31st. Heather Penrod has
graciously agreed to take my place.
Volunteers for July 31:
nursery - Heather Penrod and Mykaela Penrod-Smith
4/5s - the Yeomans family and Cheryl Hederstrom
Aug. 12th - all-church potluck at Pioneer Waterland

Scriptura: The Great Big Bible Study will resume Wednesday, August 24, entering into 1 and 2 Maccabees.
WORSHIP IN THE PARK
Sunday, August 7th, we will gather at the Rotary Paviliion at Mt. Run Station to worship at 10am. Beginning at 9am, there will be a hot breakfast. If you have yard games (no darts please!), bring them and we'll play. If you want to take a ride on the highland trail, bring your bikes and enjoy. It will be a beautiful day together.
PEACE CRANE PROJECT
Volunteers are needed and welcome to help fold Origami Peace Cranes. Our goal is to make 1000 folded paper cranes to send out to a church where there has been violence in their area, just as we received 1000 Peace Cranes after the Chardon High School shooting in 2012 from Sharon Church in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. We in turn sent them to Newtown Congregational Church after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. They continue to travel to other churches in need of hope and healing.
And so now it is time to make our own set of cranes to send off with prayers of hope and peace.
Please call the church office or me if you would like to help with this very important endeavor. We will be meeting together in the fellowship hall to create these symbols of peace a couple of times per week until they are all ready to take off. Next week we will be meeting on Monday at 10 AM
and Thursday at 6:30 PM.
Thanks for your help.
