If we are to believe the good news in the book of Revelation, then this does point to an eternal hope of God to bring all things together - human and divine, heaven and earth. Cutting through the symbols and the imagery, there is a testament of the presence and covenant of God to continue breathing life into the world and redeeming, restoring, and resurrecting all things, people, and situations to (re)enter into holy communion and union with God and one another. To approach Revelation in such a manner is to discern the hope amidst the symbolism - and allow God's continuing presence and eternal desire to shine through it all, and to shine upon us today. God is still breathing life into our world - into your being and into the being of others - to bring about a human and divine hope for a beautiful, just, and peaceful world.
This is good news.
Our next movie night is May 13th at 6:30 pm. Wear your favorite pajamas, bring a blanket, and enjoy a VeggieTales movie. We'll have a snack and make a cute craft! This will be our last movie night until September.
We invite anyone in fourth grade or older to attend our next youth group event. On Friday, May 20th, we're planning a sleepover! Please let me or Heather Penrod know if you're planning to attend.
We are looking for play food and a toy cash register for the nursery. If anyone has these items and would like to donate them, please bring them to church on Sunday or drop them in the office with a note. Thanks in advance.
May 15 is the beautiful celebration of Pentecost - the pouring out of the holy spirit upon the world and the creation of a body that will continue Christ's healing and God's resurrection work - the Church. To honor the wonder of this day, we will be doing a few things within and outside of worship that I invite you to partake in.
First, during worship, there will be an opportunity to name and share the hope(s) you have for the Church and for our church. Second, during worship we will also be formally welcoming new members into the body - entering into that covenantal community to be God's partners in redeeming work.
Following worship, there will be the dedication of the Food Pantry - to be named Ida's Cupboard after our beloved friend, Ida Spicl, who started the whole thing years and years ago. Although she is no longer with us, her spirit continues to feed and nourish the entire community. It is a blessing to host this ministry within our walls and a joy to dedicate it to such a beautiful and gracious woman.
Finally, after our dedication, you will be invited to the Ministry Fair in the fellowship hall, which is a great opportunity to listen to the stories of what PCC ministries are doing in the community and beyond, and to discern if there is a new ministry that would employ your gifts for the glory of God and the blessing of the world.
I hope to see you for all of this on such a beautiful day.
PENTECOST MINISTRY FAIR
Sunday, May 15 following worship. Each ministry within the church is invited to create a display informing the congregation about the good work they do and providing invitations/opportunities to serve.
Save the date and come down to the fellowship hall to learn more about the mission work within the church and the opportunities to employ your gifts to extend God's Grace in the world.
