AfterWords:

The presence of the Risen Christ encounters us like Peter on the shore, with a meal prepared that sustains us for this breath, this minute, this moment, this life that awaits us. It was beautiful to listen to you share your encounters when Christ has breathed into you in a nurturing, soul-feeding way. This coming Sunday, we’ll hear the same scripture again, with attentive ears to the charge that comes after the meal: "Feed my sheep.” It is a transformational moment in the life of Peter when, after this encounter, he cannot go back to doing the laundry or fishing, but is lead to serve.

Encountering the resurrection… it’s a wondrous thing.

A blessed and resurrection-filled Easter season to you.

Peace,

Chris

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

This Friday, April 15th is movie night!  Please join us for a movie, snacks, and a great craft.  We'll meet in the parlor at 6:30 p.m.  Hope to see you there.

On Sunday, April 17th, we're planning an after-church program for students in fourth grade to middle school.  We'll have lunch, a planning session, and a short program and then play foosball, air hockey, and other games.  We should be finished by 3:00 p.m.

There will not be Sunday School on Maple Festival Sunday, April 24th.

We are looking for play food and a toy cash register for the nursery.  If anyone has these items and would like to donate them, please bring them to church on Sunday or drop them in the office with a note.  Thanks in advance.

Blessings, Vickie

MEMBERSHIP COURSES

If you have expressed an interest in joining Pilgrim Christian Church as a member. If you have been wondering about the history, polity, or identity of the church. Or, if you are just really interested in American-frontier/Restoration Movement congregationalism, Rev. Chris McCreight will be hosting two sessions that will share the history, polity, and an idea or two about the identity of Pilgrim Christian Church. We will also talk about what it looks like and what it means to become a member. This class is anything but mandatory to join to congregation, they are simply to help share who we are and how we are that prospective and new members will be better able to join in the life and work of the church.

The class will be this Sunday, April 17th from 11:30-12:30pm. If you have any questions or would like to attend, please speak with Chris.

SCRIPTURA:  THE GREAT BIG BIBLE STUDY

Rev. Chris will be hosting a new bible study on Wednesday evenings, beginning Wednesday, April 13 @ 6-7:30pm. The study will be an ongoing course discussing everything from the origins of books and canonization, history and authorship, sources (J,E,P,D, & Q!), styles (law, prophets, wisdom, gospels, epistles, and apocalyptic), and ideas on how to read it all for context and for current application. It is a great big bible study! And we’ll move through it in segments for 4 weeks at a time. The first segment will discuss ideas on the origins of books and the formation of the bible (how did we get the books we have and how did they come together in testaments and why didn’t certain gospels like Thomas make the cut and what about the apocrypha?). Please bring your bible, something to eat, and come and participate in this study!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Maple Festival is coming! And this means that Geauga County’s best pancake breakfast is coming! We serve breakfast Sat. April 23rd from 8-3 and Sun. April 24th from 8-3 and would love your help to serve.  See Ward Lawrence if you would like to participate!  Sunday Morning Worship Service on the 24th will be at 8:00 AM.

Sharri Farrell will need help wrapping silverware for the breakfast. If you are able to help, meet in her in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday April 20th at 1:00 PM.

COUNTY JAIL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

I'm Sara Dobie Bauer. My husband, Jake, and I have been in Chardon since August, but previously, I ran a book club at Perryville Prison in Phoenix, AZ. I would like to start a similar ministry at the Geauga County Jail. Since inmates at the jail won't be there for, say, seven years, like a lot of my book club girls at Perryville, we'll have to change it up. Possibly, we'll do a Bible study where we do readings from the Bible as well as devotionals and discuss what we've read. I'm also interested in having musicians come to the jail and play hymns. If you're interested in taking part in this volunteer opportunity, send me an email: sara@saradobie.com. Volunteering at Perryville Prison changed my life, truly, and I have God to thank for that (as well as my wonderful book club girls). I think we can forge a similarly beneficial relationship with the jail, imparting our knowledge and love of Christ while learning from those incarcerated. The volunteer orientation will take place some time in May, and once we've all been through that, we can start building our program. I look forward to getting started!
