What is the practice you engage with that allows you to listen deeply? Last night, we opened the sanctuary for our Lenten Service for Contemplative Prayer, where we read scripture, followed it with corresponding poetry, and then sat in silence for all of 15 minutes. 15 minutes to pray. 15 minutes to listen. It was a fascinating experience with some suggesting the time went by incredibly slow, and others finding it went way too fast. And I believe that all of us discovered the need for it... for 15 minutes and more, to pray.
So, however it unfolds for you, I hope that you will carve out the time to simply be, simply breathe, and pray. It is something necessary for our being, our journey, and this season of Lent.
On Sunday, Feb. 28th, the Heifer Fair will take place. The Missions committee will have games for all the children. Our Sunday school will present the money we've collected to buy animals from the Heifer Project.
Looking ahead - March 11th will be movie night next month.
We are beginning preparation for Rev. Chris' sabbatical, which is likely to transpire over the summer of 2017. There is work to begin now, however, such as collaborating on the plans for the congregation and Rev. Chris during that time and filling out a grant application with the Lily Foundation, which offers funding for the minister and congregation. A working group will be assembled shortly and begin sharing ideas. If you would like to be involved, please speak with Mary Wick.
